Oklahoma '07 continued...

Shame on you for underestimating Bartlesville. Does YOUR small-ish town have a Frank Lloyd Wright skyscraper?

This is Price Tower in downtown Bartlesville, by far the tallest building for miles. As one would imagine, it's pretty much the main attraction around here. That and the Tom Mix museum a couple miles outside of town. Yeah we went there this afternoon. It's about the size of a particularly small cottage, and when we walked in an ancient woman told they they were "playing one of Tom's talkies in the back." Just to give you an idea.

Here's some detail on the Price Tower.

And here's a picture of the lobby I took right before the aggressively librarianish woman behind the front desk tole me the no photography rule.

And this is a picture I tried to snap discreetly of my 88-year-old grandfather watching Rush Hour. I've been trying to figure out his mental process on this and am still at a loss. Here's a man who was born in 1919, raised on a farm in Kansas during the Great Depression, eventually became a quintessentially buttoned-down chemical engineer, and of all the things on TV this afternoon, he's settled on the vulger Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan buddy comedy. This is the man who can and does still recite Burma Shave limericks and who, according to my uncle, had no earthly idea who Michael Jackson was in 1988. I really can't imagine what he must be thinking as he watches Chris Tucker tell someone, "It would take me all day to kiss yo' big ass!" According to my mom she couldn't even say the word "butt" growing up.

Tomorrow we head for the the bright lights of downtown Tulsa.
